Safety and reporting
Yawnfox has no accounts and does not record calls: video, audio and chat go between you and the other person, encrypted, and never through our servers. You are still meeting a stranger who can see your IP address and could record you, so keep personal details to yourself, press Next to leave at any time, and report anyone by email.
Staying safe
- Don’t share personal details: your full name, address, school or workplace, phone number or social media accounts.
- The other person’s browser can see your IP address, which can reveal your approximate location and internet provider. A VPN hides it if that worries you. Unless you turn off “Show my country” in the settings, they can also see the country of that address.
- Anything you show or say can be recorded. Our rules allow recording and posting only when everyone who can be seen or heard has clearly agreed, and you can always say no, but we cannot technically stop someone who ignores that.
- You can leave at any moment: press Next or close the page. The camera button turns your video off.
- Don’t open links or files from strangers, and never send anyone money.
- If someone is in danger, contact your local emergency services first, then tell us.
How to report
Email contact@yawnfox.com and include:
- the date and time it happened, with your time zone;
- what happened;
- the topics you had entered, if any, and anything else that may help us.
Never send us images or video of child sexual abuse, not even to report it. Describe what you saw instead. You can also report it directly: in the United States to NCMEC’s CyberTipline, in the UK to the Internet Watch Foundation, elsewhere through your country’s INHOPE hotline, or to your local police.
If someone recorded or posted you
Ask them to take it down: our Terms require them to do so promptly. Report it to the site where it was posted, as most have a privacy or harassment form. You can also tell us at contact@yawnfox.com, with the date and time of the call and a link to the clip. We cannot remove clips posted elsewhere and usually cannot identify who posted them, but we act under our Terms where we can. If the clip is sexual or shows a minor, never send it to us: describe it, and use the reporting links above.
What happens to a report
We read every report. We may restrict or end access to the service, for example by rate limiting or blocking connections, if we reasonably believe someone is abusing it or breaking our Terms. We report to the authorities where the law requires it, for example for child sexual abuse material. We may write back if we need more detail, but we usually cannot tell you what we did about another person. We keep reports only as long as we need them, and no longer than 12 months after they are closed unless the law requires longer.
What we cannot see
Video, audio, chat and games go between the two browsers, encrypted: directly when the networks allow, otherwise through a relay service that cannot see or hear them. They never pass through our servers, and we do not record or keep them. There are no accounts either. This protects your privacy, but it also means we usually cannot see what happened or identify the person you met, which is why the details in your report matter.
Contact
contact@yawnfox.com is the single point of contact for Yawnfox: for users, and for authorities and law enforcement. Please write in English if you can. The Terms and the Privacy Policy say more about our rules and your data.
